Beijing-based practice aoe has designed the Sino-Italian Cultural Centre in Chengdu. The marriage of Italian and China styles was at the center of the project to portray the cultural mix and the structure was adapted to merge with its wooded surroundings.
The refreshingly diverse piece of architecture includes multifaceted spaces for exhibitions, meetings, receptions and catering, displaying an amazing marriage of Italian and China style elements in its contemporary architecture. The AOE carefully observed the intersection of the two cultures, celebrating the differences and union between East and West.
Chengdu is known as a land of abundance, its history of civilization is 4,500 years old and the construction of the city is 2,300 years old. Marco Polo came to Chengdu in the 13th century, with the Corridor Bridge, the Jinjiang River and the cloth of ancient Sichuan becoming the most colorful part of his travelogue.
